Congress Leaders Escalate Criticism Over AAP MP's Security Controversy in Punjab
The political controversy surrounding AAP MP Raghav Chadha's security cover intensified significantly on Wednesday, with prominent Congress leaders in Punjab dismissing the entire episode as orchestrated "political drama" designed to divert public attention from pressing state issues.
Congress MLAs Decry "Staged Drama" Between AAP and BJP-Led Centre
Congress MLA Pargat Singh launched a scathing attack on the unfolding situation, explicitly linking the security row involving Chadha with recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) action against Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Mittal. Singh characterized both developments as "staged drama" being performed between the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab and the BJP-led central government.
"Enough theatrics have taken place in Punjab's political arena," Singh declared emphatically. "Nothing substantial or meaningful will emerge from such manufactured developments. Both political sides should immediately cease these distractions and focus their complete attention on Punjab's genuine welfare and development."
The Congress legislator further alleged that such controversies are deliberately manufactured and amplified whenever key substantive issues demand attention, specifically mentioning the ongoing farmers' distress as one such critical matter being overshadowed by political theater.
Congress Demands White Paper on Security Allocation System
In a parallel development, Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira delivered a comprehensive critique of what he termed a "fundamentally flawed and politically manipulated" security allocation system operating in Punjab. Khaira issued a formal demand for the state government to produce a detailed white paper that would transparently document the entire process of granting and withdrawing security cover for politicians and government officials.
"The people of Punjab deserve complete accountability and transparency in matters of public safety and security," Khaira asserted. "Security protection cannot be treated as a political privilege to be distributed or withdrawn based on partisan considerations. The recent Chadha episode has exposed the arbitrary nature of decision-making in this critical area."
The Congress leader posed pointed questions about both the initial granting of Z+ category security to Raghav Chadha and its subsequent withdrawal, questioning whether any proper, objective threat assessment was conducted at either stage of the process.
Security Must Be Based on Objective Threat Perception, Not Whims
Khaira emphasized that security allocations must be determined strictly based on objective threat perception assessments conducted by professional security agencies, not on the "whims and political calculations" of whichever government happens to be in power. He invoked the tragic killing of popular singer Sidhu Moose Wala as a sobering reminder that lapses and manipulations in security allocation processes can have devastating, irreversible consequences.
Meanwhile, Congress MLA Pargat Singh expanded his criticism beyond the immediate security controversy, questioning both the AAP state government and the BJP-led central government about their progress—or lack thereof—in investigating two significant historical cases: the 2015 sacrilege incidents and the Maur bomb blast. Singh also criticized Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for what he characterized as a failure to take firm, decisive stands on these crucial matters affecting Punjab's security and social harmony.
