Haryana Congress to Move No-Confidence Motion Against BJP Govt in Winter Session
Congress to Bring No-Confidence Motion in Haryana Assembly

The Congress party in Haryana has decided to bring a no-confidence motion against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government during the upcoming winter session of the state legislative assembly. This significant political move was finalized during a meeting of the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) held on Tuesday.

Key Decisions from the CLP Meeting

The CLP meeting was chaired by the Leader of the Opposition and former Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda. It was also attended by the party's state president, Rao Narendra Singh. The gathering extensively discussed the strategy and the specific issues the party intends to highlight during the Assembly session.

Hooda launched a sharp attack on the ruling dispensation, alleging that the BJP formed the government in Haryana by "stealing votes." He accused them of employing tactics like offering illegal inducements before the elections and facilitating multiple votes for a single individual. "Therefore, a no-confidence motion will be brought against the government, and its misdeeds will be exposed in the House," Hooda stated firmly.

Wide Array of Issues to be Raised

The Congress party plans to utilize various parliamentary instruments to corner the government on a multitude of concerns affecting the state. The party decided to bring adjournment motions on several pressing matters, including:

  • The poor and dilapidated condition of sports facilities and equipment in state complexes.
  • The issue of fraudulent voters in the electoral rolls.
  • Alleged misuse of government machinery to form the current administration.

Furthermore, through calling attention motions and short-duration discussions, the party will raise other critical topics. These include:

  • Protection of the Aravalli range and environmental concerns like rising pollution.
  • Compensation for damages caused by waterlogging and the alleged paddy scam.
  • Implementation failures in schemes like MNREGA and the rising menace of drug abuse.
  • Broader issues of corruption, and the state of education and healthcare in Haryana.

The Congress will also demand discussions on statements made by BJP MLAs and MPs that allegedly spread caste-based hatred. Other key subjects slated for debate are the Assembly complex, the SYL canal issue, law and order, and the status of Chandigarh. The government will also face questions on rising unemployment and allegations that the Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC) is giving priority to outsiders in state government jobs.

Other Resolutions and Protests

During the meeting, the legislative party also welcomed a recent court decision to reject the charge sheet in the National Herald case against the Gandhi family. A condolence resolution was passed for senior Congress leader and former Union minister Shivraj Patil and former MLA Sahib Singh Saini, with a two-minute silence observed in their memory.

Separately, Haryana Congress president Rao Narendra Singh announced that the party would hold district-level protests on Wednesday to oppose the central government's move to rename the MGNREGA scheme.

Security Preparations for the Session

As political tensions rise ahead of the session, Assembly Speaker Harvinder Kalyan chaired a high-level meeting with officials to review security and general arrangements. The meeting was attended by police and administrative officials from both the Chandigarh administration and Haryana. Officials from the Punjab Assembly's ward and watch team were also present.

Speaker Kalyan emphasized ensuring proper facilitation for visitors while maintaining strict safety and security protocols without any compromise. The winter session is expected to be a stormy affair with the Congress gearing up for a major confrontation with the Nayab Singh Saini-led BJP government on the floor of the House.
