Congress Government Announces Comprehensive Housing Relief for Displaced Khammam Families

In a significant development addressing housing insecurity, Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy declared on Sunday that the Congress government will extend substantial rehabilitation support to impoverished families displaced by recent demolitions. The demolitions targeted illegal constructions situated on Velugumatla Bhoodan lands within the Khammam urban mandal.

Minister's Assurance and Direct Engagement with Affected Families

Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy personally convened a meeting with the displaced families, demonstrating the government's commitment to direct engagement. Following this interaction, he addressed a detailed media conference at the Khammam district collectorate. He was accompanied by the displaced citizens, District Collector Anudeep Durishetty, and Police Commissioner Sunil Dutt, underscoring a coordinated administrative response.

The minister issued a firm guarantee that every eligible and deserving impoverished individual would receive sanction for an Indiramma house before the critical deadline of March 15. Furthermore, he confirmed that house sites would be allocated to facilitate the construction of these homes, ensuring a complete housing solution.

Addressing Fraud and Ensuring Justice for the Poor

Ponguleti highlighted a distressing pattern of exploitation, revealing that certain private individuals had illicitly collected money from vulnerable citizens by selling plots on government land. He urged the victims to come forward and provide detailed information to police authorities and relevant officials to initiate corrective action.

"This is the people's Indiramma government, where injustice against the poor will not be tolerated," the minister asserted. "The government is dedicated to recovering the fraudulently obtained money and returning it to those deceived by vested interests."

Political Context and Investigation into Circumstances

The minister did not shy away from the political dimensions of the issue, criticizing opposition parties for attempting to capitalize on the Velugumatla situation for partisan advantage. "The Congress government is unequivocally pro-poor. Innocent families should not suffer due to the deceitful actions of vested interests," Ponguleti stated, empathizing with families who built homes under the mistaken belief of possessing legitimate land titles.

To ensure a fair and comprehensive resolution, the minister announced a thorough investigation. This probe will meticulously examine:

  • The duration of the families' residence on the Velugumatla Bhoodan lands.
  • The detailed financial conditions and socio-economic status of the affected households.

This investigation aims to deliver precise and equitable justice to all impoverished individuals impacted by the demolitions.

Eligibility Criteria and Future Housing Provisions

In his concluding remarks, Ponguleti addressed specific eligibility concerns. He noted that investigations had uncovered involvement by some government employees and individuals who had already benefited from Indiramma houses. "Apart from such exceptional cases, all other eligible poor families will be provided houses," he clarified.

The rehabilitation plan includes constructing homes in two key areas:

  1. The surrounding regions of Khammam town.
  2. The respective original localities of the displaced victims.

Indiramma house sanctions will be processed accordingly, ensuring a structured and locality-sensitive resettlement for the displaced families, marking a decisive step toward restoring stability and dignity.
