Congress Stages Walkout in Rajasthan Assembly Over Land Allotment Controversy

The Rajasthan Assembly witnessed a dramatic walkout by Congress members during Zero Hour on Wednesday, following intense exchanges over delays in land allotment for hostels serving three communities in Sirohi district. The protest highlighted deepening political tensions between the ruling government and the opposition.

Congress MLA Raises Issue of Delayed Hostel Land Allotment

Congress MLA Motiram Koli brought the matter to the forefront through a Calling Attention motion, demanding clarification from the government regarding the prolonged delay in allotting land for hostels in Reodar, Sirohi district. Koli emphasized the urgent need for these facilities to support the communities involved.

Revenue Minister Blames Previous Congress Government

In response, Revenue Minister Hemant Meena pointed fingers at the previous Congress administration, stating that the three allotment cases in Reodar were decisions made during the final six months of their tenure. "The previous government allotted the land in its last six months without proper scrutiny. Now, they are alleging deficiencies and delays," Meena asserted.

He elaborated that the earlier allotments were cancelled due to administrative shortcomings, including the absence of lease deeds. "If the intentions were genuine, the process was completed earlier. It appears to be done for political mileage," Meena remarked, suggesting the actions were motivated by electoral considerations rather than genuine welfare.

Current Government's Commitment to Rule-Based Allotment

Meena assured the Assembly that the present government would thoroughly examine the deficiencies and restart the allotment process from scratch. "Our government will allot land to social hostels strictly as per rules and due procedure," he declared. He confirmed that land would be allocated in Sirohi for hostels catering to various communities, with a review of pending cases to commence soon in accordance with regulations.

Congress Walkout and Political Reactions

Dissatisfied with the minister's response, Congress members staged a walkout in protest. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel criticized the move, labeling it as theatrical. "The Congress is indulging in theatrics," Patel stated, further escalating the political rift.

The exchange underscored sharp differences between the Treasury and Opposition benches over land allotment decisions and administrative procedures, reflecting broader governance challenges in the state.
