In a significant political development, the Congress party has declared a clear moral and political triumph following the results of the zila parishad and block samiti elections in the Qadian assembly segment. Leader of the Opposition, Partap Singh Bajwa, asserted that the outcome was achieved despite facing relentless pressure from the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government and a blatant misuse of the state administration.
A Victory Against the Odds
Bajwa highlighted that in the zila parishad elections, the Congress secured two out of the three seats, winning in Kahnuwan and Tugalwal. He stated that this result reflects the deep-rooted trust of the people in what he termed as democratic and pro-people politics. "These results prove beyond doubt that even under intense political intimidation, administrative pressure, and manipulation, Congress candidates earned the confidence of the people," Bajwa said.
Allegations of Electoral Manipulation
The senior Congress leader was sharply critical of the conduct of the elections in the Dhariwal block. He asserted that the outcome there would have been far more decisive in favour of the Congress if the polls had been conducted in a free, fair, and unbiased manner. Bajwa pointed to the arbitrary cancellation of nine nominations as a key example, alleging that this move exposed the AAP government's fear of the people's verdict.
"The people of Qadian have sent a strong message that democracy cannot be crushed through pressure tactics," Bajwa emphasized. He described the electoral verdict as a resounding rejection of intimidation, misuse of power, and police-managed politics.
Confidence for the 2027 Punjab Assembly Polls
Looking ahead, Partap Singh Bajwa expressed strong confidence about the Congress party's future in Punjab. He declared that if the party could deliver such results even in what he called a compromised electoral environment, it signals a readiness for change among the populace. "In 2027, the Congress will form the government in Punjab with the blessings of the people," Bajwa predicted, setting the stage for the next major electoral battle in the state.
The statement from the Leader of the Opposition frames these local body election results as a crucial indicator of shifting political winds in Punjab, suggesting growing public disillusionment with the incumbent AAP administration and a potential resurgence for the Congress.
