Chennai: CPI state secretary M Veerapandian on Thursday urged Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay to focus on law and order issues on a war footing. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a CPI protest against LPG price hike, Veerapandian stressed that no time should be wasted in ensuring that law and order is maintained in the state.
CPI Protests Against Price Hikes
The CPI had organised a statewide protest condemning the hike in prices of domestic LPG, commercial LPG cylinders, petrol, diesel, and CNG. Participants raised slogans against the BJP government at the Centre for failing to protect traders and hoteliers from the burden of rising fuel costs.
Veerapandian's Remarks on Law and Order
“Vijay can take time to implement poll promises but not for law and order. The police and intelligence department should be pressed into preventing crime incidents. Not just the government but the entire Tamil community should come forward to prevent crime against women and children,” Veerapandian said. He urged immediate action to curb rising criminal activities and ensure public safety.
The CPI leader highlighted that while developmental promises can be fulfilled gradually, the safety of citizens cannot be compromised. He called for a comprehensive approach involving both law enforcement agencies and community participation to address crime effectively.
