CPM Launches Counter-Campaign Against UDF's Secret Alliance Allegations in Kerala

In a significant political development, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has announced it will launch a comprehensive campaign to counter allegations made by the United Democratic Front. The UDF has claimed that the Left Democratic Front and the Bharatiya Janata Party have formed a secret alliance ahead of the upcoming state assembly elections in Kerala.

BJP's Stagnant Growth in Kerala Since 2016

According to CPM leadership, Kerala stands as the only state where the growth of the BJP has remained almost stagnant since 2016. This fact, they argue, indirectly demonstrates that the LDF has successfully arrested the expansion of the saffron party within the state. The CPM plans to make this a central theme in their upcoming campaign speeches.

"The UDF is making unfounded allegations that the LDF and BJP have a secret understanding in certain seats like Palakkad," revealed a source within the CPM. "They are trying to make mileage out of such false allegations. In reality, the BJP couldn't make any significant growth in Kerala over the past decade."

Vote Share Analysis and Campaign Strategy

Campaigners, including the chief minister, will emphasize specific voting data in their speeches. In 2016, the BJP's vote share in Kerala was approximately 11%. During the 2025 local body elections, this increased to 14.76% - a modest growth that CPM leaders will highlight as evidence against any secret alliance.

The CPM source elaborated further: "Our key campaigners will be elaborating these aspects in the campaigns in the coming days. It is true that the BJP gained power in Thiruvananthapuram corporation. However, that party's total vote share in the corporation remains less than that of the LDF. Similarly, the saffron party faced setbacks as it lost control of some local bodies where it previously held power."

Political Analyst Perspectives on Kerala's Political Landscape

Jacob George, a respected political analyst, provided context to the situation: "Despite all their efforts to make inroads into more sections in the state, the saffron party couldn't make significant growth in Kerala so far. This is primarily because of the strong presence of both the UDF and LDF. The BJP can only grow substantially if one of these two axis powers experiences significant erosion in their vote base. As of now, this hasn't occurred."

CPM's Broader Campaign Objectives

The CPM leadership intends to focus their campaigns on generating public sentiment that the policies of the CPM and LDF represent the only viable alternative that could potentially be emulated and implemented in other Indian states. This strategic positioning aims to strengthen their ideological appeal beyond immediate electoral considerations.

The campaign will unfold across Kerala in the coming days, with senior leaders including the chief minister addressing rallies and public meetings to systematically counter what they describe as baseless allegations from the opposition UDF.
