CPM demands VSP steel for Amaravati, seeks land for yard

The CPM Visakhapatnam district unit has urged the Andhra Pradesh government to utilize steel produced by the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) for construction activities in Amaravati and other projects across the state. The party also demanded the allocation of 10 acres of land in Amaravati to establish a marketing yard for VSP.

CPM's demands for VSP

CPM Visakhapatnam district secretary M Jaggu Naidu called on the government to abandon plans to sign agreements with private companies for steel supply for Amaravati's construction. He warned that such decisions would negatively impact the future of VSP. “The steel plant already has marketing yards in major cities like Chennai, Mumbai, and Hyderabad, and Amaravati also requires such a facility,” he said. Naidu urged Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to immediately finalize an agreement with the steel plant management on these issues.

Compensation for accident victims

Referring to a recent accident at VSP, Naidu noted that nine days had passed since the tragedy, and the victims' families were still awaiting support from the chief minister. He demanded that the state government announce an ex gratia payment of Rs 1 crore to the families of deceased workers and Rs 50 lakh to those injured in the accident.
