CPM Leader M A Baby Accuses BJP and Congress of Covert Electoral Understanding
In a significant political development, CPM general secretary M A Baby has made serious allegations regarding a secret electoral pact between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Congress. Speaking on Saturday in Thiruvananthapuram, Baby asserted that this clandestine arrangement was responsible for the Left Democratic Front (LDF) facing setbacks in the recent local body elections.
Allegations of Vote Transfer and Unholy Nexus
Baby elaborated that the BJP's victory in the Nemom assembly constituency during the 2016 elections was not an independent achievement but rather the result of a deliberate vote transfer from the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) to the BJP. "Anyone who understands basic arithmetic can see why BJP won Nemom in 2016," Baby stated, emphasizing that a long-time RSS associate managed to secure a seat only because UDF votes were strategically polled in favor of the BJP.
He expressed deep apprehension that similar underhanded deals could be replicated across multiple assembly segments in the upcoming elections, potentially distorting the democratic process. "The setback faced by LDF in the last local body elections was the direct outcome of such an unholy nexus," Baby declared, urging vigilance among the electorate.
LDF's Resolute Stand and Broader Political Maneuvers
Highlighting the LDF's countermeasures, Baby pointed out that it was the front's determined and unified strategy that led to the BJP losing its Nemom seat in the 2021 election. However, he warned that the issue extends beyond just the Congress, noting that the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) also secured several wards in local body elections with alleged support from the BJP and RSS.
"At no cost should the people of Kerala allow the BJP and RSS to expand their foothold in the state," Baby cautioned, framing the upcoming electoral battle as crucial for preserving Kerala's political integrity and progressive values.
Appeal to Voters Based on Development Record
In an effort to rally support, Baby expressed optimism that Kerala's citizens would remember the numerous development initiatives and welfare schemes successfully implemented by the LDF government over the past decade. He confidently predicted that this track record would motivate voters to cast their ballots in favor of the LDF, enabling the formation of a government for a third consecutive term.
Clarification on Sabarimala Gold Scam and Respect for Sonia Gandhi
Responding to media inquiries, Baby addressed the controversial Sabarimala gold scam, clarifying that he does not believe Congress leader Sonia Gandhi was personally involved. "I have great respect for Sonia Gandhi," he affirmed, explaining that the circulation of photographs showing her with individuals accused in the gold theft case is insufficient evidence to implicate her.
Nevertheless, Baby raised suspicions about the close relationships between the accused and certain Congress functionaries, including a former devaswom president. He criticized the Congress leadership for failing to adequately address these doubts, leaving unanswered questions about potential complicity or negligence within their ranks.
As Kerala gears up for another electoral contest, Baby's allegations underscore the intense political rivalries and strategic maneuvering that characterize the state's vibrant democracy, with all eyes on how these claims will influence voter sentiment and party dynamics in the coming months.
