In a late-night operation on Wednesday, the Pahadi police of Deeg district arrested a notorious criminal, Saddam Khan, who carried a reward of Rs 70,000 on his head. The arrest followed an intense encounter where approximately 20 rounds were exchanged between the accused and the police.
Encounter Details
According to police officials, the accused sustained a gunshot wound to his leg during the retaliatory firing. A bullet also struck the bulletproof jacket of a constable, Netram, who fortunately escaped injury. Deeg Superintendent of Police Sharan Gopinath Kamble provided further information about the incident.
Acting on a tip-off that Khan was traveling on a motorcycle without a number plate from Dhimri village toward Ghatmika village, the police set up a blockade. Around 2:05 a.m., Khan reached Dhimri Chauraha, where police signaled him to stop. Upon spotting the police, he attempted to flee by turning his motorcycle around and opened fire on the officers.
Exchange of Fire
Khan then hid in a canal along the road and continued firing at the police. During the exchange, a bullet hit Constable Netram's bulletproof jacket. Netram engaged the accused, and the police returned fire, during which Khan was shot in the leg. He was subsequently apprehended.
Police recovered a 315-bore katta (country-made pistol) and 10 cartridges from the accused. The motorcycle was also seized. Khan was taken to Pahadi Hospital for treatment and later referred to RBM Hospital in Bharatpur for further medical care.
Criminal Background
Saddam Khan is accused of murdering a home guard jawan in Dausa and of firing at Alwar police. He had been absconding since 2017. Approximately 23 cases related to firing on police and cow smuggling are registered against him. The arrest marks a significant achievement for the police force in the region.
