Davanagere Deputy Commissioner Announces Major Land Rights Initiative
In a significant development for land governance in Karnataka, Deputy Commissioner GM Gangadharaswamy declared 298 residential areas in Davanagere district as revenue villages. This announcement was made during a ceremony held in Haveri, where title deeds were distributed to approximately 12,000 beneficiaries, marking a crucial step in securing property rights for local residents.
Land Regularization and Title Deed Distribution
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Gangadharaswamy highlighted that Davanagere has achieved the second-highest ranking among districts in Karnataka for issuing the most title deeds. However, he noted that some beneficiaries are still awaiting their documents, with a strict deadline set for March 15 to complete the distribution process.
For individuals who have not subdivided their government-approved land, the non-disposal file process has been initiated to address these cases. Gangadharaswamy clarified, "The files related to 4,000 people in the district have been disposed of and records issued, while 10,000 such files remain pending. Those affected should promptly contact the tahsildar's office for resolution."
Upcoming Digital Census Preparations
The Deputy Commissioner also provided updates on the forthcoming census, stating that instructions have been received from the government and necessary preparations are underway. The process of appointing enumerators has commenced, with preliminary information indicating that the census is likely to be conducted from April 16 to May 15.
Gangadharaswamy emphasized, "There will be an opportunity for self-verification from April 1 to April 15. The census will feature 30 questionnaires, with answers required for each question. Notably, for the first time, the census will be conducted digitally, enhancing efficiency and accuracy."
Enforcement Actions on Flex Banners and Water Lifting
In connection with the Durgambika Jatra, officials have observed an increase in the display of flex banners across various parts of the city. Gangadharaswamy issued a stern warning, stating that strict action will be taken against those erecting flex banners without prior permission from the municipal corporation.
Additionally, a prohibition order has been enforced around the Bhadra canal until the end of February to prevent unauthorized water lifting. An IAS officer warned, "Farmers must remove unauthorized pump sets installed on the canal. If not removed voluntarily, they will be confiscated. Irrigation department staff will conduct night patrols, and non-compliance may result in electricity connections being cut off."
The event was attended by key officials including SP HT Shekhar and ADC Sheelavant Shivakumar, underscoring the collaborative effort in implementing these governance measures.
