The city of Davanagere is preparing for a monumental event to honor the life and legacy of veteran legislator and former minister, Shamanur Shivashankarappa, who passed away recently. The tribute is scheduled for December 26 and is expected to draw a massive crowd, reflecting the late leader's deep connection with the people.

Grand Preparations on a 100-Acre Site

Authorities are making extensive arrangements on a sprawling 100-acre site near the Kalleshwara Rice Mill in Anekonda. A central feature of the venue is a three-stage pavilion currently under construction to host the dignitaries and ceremonies. Organizers have planned seating for over 25,000 attendees, with separate dining areas arranged for religious leaders, dignitaries, and the general public.

To manage the anticipated influx of over 40,000 people, comprehensive food arrangements are in place. A total of 90 food counters will be operational at the main venue, with additional meal services set up at various community halls across Davanagere. Given the scale of the event, local traffic police will implement route alterations from 6 am to 6 pm on the day of the function to ensure smooth movement.

High-Profile Attendees and Ceremonial Highlights

The event will witness the presence of the state's political elite. Confirmed attendees include Rajya Sabha member and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, AICC president and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. The ceremony will be presided over by retired Supreme Court Justice Shivaraj Patil.

The program, beginning at 10:15 am, features several significant moments. Mallikarjun Kharge will unveil a statue of Shivashankarappa crafted by renowned Mysuru artist Arun Yogiraj. HD Deve Gowda will release a commemorative booklet detailing the leader's life, while Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will launch a documentary titled ‘Amruta Purusha’. Adding a personal touch, family members, including his grandchildren, are set to share their cherished memories.

A Cultural and Community Homage

The tribute extends beyond political ceremonies to include cultural and spiritual elements. Religious leaders from across Karnataka have been invited to participate, underscoring Shivashankarappa's broad societal impact. The cultural segment will feature Vachana singing presented by Ravindra Soragavi and his team from Bengaluru, adding a traditional artistic homage to the proceedings.

Invitations have been sent to all residents of the district, urging their participation in this final farewell. The elaborate preparations and the expected turnout point to the enduring respect and affection held for Shamanur Shivashankarappa, marking this event as a significant moment of collective remembrance for the people of Davanagere and Karnataka.
