Dharwad Electoral Roll Revision Commences for 2026 Assembly Constituencies
The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll for the year 2026 has officially begun in the areas falling under assembly constituencies 72, 73, and 74 within the Hubballi–Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) limits. This crucial process is being conducted under the direct supervision of HDMC commissioner Rudresh Ghali, following explicit directions from the Election Commission of India.
Mapping Voter Details with Historical Records
The primary objective of this revision is to meticulously map the present electoral roll with the 2002 electoral roll to verify and update voter details with utmost accuracy. As part of the preparatory work, voters who will be aged 40 years and above in 2025 are being specifically mapped with their names as they appeared in the 2002 voter list. The Election Commission has issued clear directives to officials to identify such voters and link them with their family members through a comprehensive mapping and progeny linking process to ensure thorough verification.
Commissioner Rudresh Ghali emphasized the importance of public cooperation, stating, "Although booth level officers (BLOs) have been conducting door-to-door surveys to carry out the mapping exercise, the progress has not reached the expected level. Therefore, voters within the HDMC limits should cooperate with officials to facilitate this essential democratic process."
Verification Process and Citizen Responsibilities
Voters are strongly urged to verify whether their names and the names of their family members in the current electoral roll have been successfully mapped with the 2002 voter list by contacting their respective BLOs. If the mapping has not been completed, citizens should proactively provide the necessary details from the 2002 voter list to the BLOs to enable a smooth and efficient verification process.
The commissioner issued a critical warning, noting that voters who are not properly mapped may face deletion from the electoral roll or could be subjected to further verification as per the Election Commission's stringent directions and voter registration rules. This underscores the urgency for all eligible voters to participate actively in the revision.
House-to-House Verification and Corrective Measures
BLOs are currently engaged in intensive house-to-house verification across their respective polling areas to ensure no voter is left out. Citizens are advised to meticulously check whether their names and their family members' names are correctly included in the voter list. If members of the same family are listed in different polling stations, different areas, or with incorrect details, they should promptly submit Form-8 along with relevant supporting documents to correct the information and ensure that all family members are listed under the same polling station.
In the unfortunate event that any voter in the family has passed away, relatives are required to submit the death certificate and fill out Form-7 through the BLO to remove the deceased person's name from the electoral roll, thereby maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the voter database.
For further information, clarifications, or assistance, citizens may contact their respective BLOs or visit the assembly constituency election office. This electoral roll revision is a foundational step toward ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process for the upcoming elections, and public participation is deemed vital for its success.
