BHUBANESWAR: Police in Dhenkanal district have launched a manhunt for a man accused of raping a 30-year-old woman and attacking her with a knife on Monday. The incident came to light on Thursday when the survivor, in critical condition, was referred from Dhenkanal hospital to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

Anger spilled onto the streets as locals staged a protest in Dhenkanal on Thursday, demanding the immediate arrest of the accused, who is believed to live near the survivor's village. According to the complaint lodged by the woman's brother on Monday, she was sexually assaulted while bathing in the village pond.

“We have recorded her statement and formed three teams to arrest the accused,” said Ramesh Chandra Dora, sub-divisional police officer of Dhenkanal. The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault.
