Dhinakaran Denies Rajya Sabha Bid, Eyes Assembly Seats

AMMK Leader T T V Dhinakaran Dismisses Rajya Sabha Seat Speculation

In a significant political development from Madurai, AMMK leader T T V Dhinakaran has categorically dismissed recent reports suggesting his party is seeking a Rajya Sabha seat. Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Dhinakaran emphasized that the AMMK is instead focused on securing a fair number of seats in the upcoming Assembly elections through strategic negotiations.

Clarification on Election Strategy

Amid widespread speculation that he was eyeing a Rajya Sabha berth and might skip the Assembly polls, Dhinakaran firmly stated, "There is no such demand." He clarified that his personal decision not to contest the elections is aimed at ensuring smooth seat-sharing arrangements and improving the alliance's overall prospects. This move, he explained, is designed to facilitate better coordination within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Tamil Nadu.

Seat-Sharing Talks and Alliance Dynamics

Addressing reporters in Tirunelveli, Dhinakaran revealed that seat-sharing talks within the NDA in Tamil Nadu have not yet commenced. He noted that while the BJP leads the alliance at the national level, the AIADMK heads it in the state. The AMMK, he assured, will work towards a mutually acceptable arrangement with the AIADMK under the BJP's guidance. This statement underscores the party's commitment to collaborative politics and its role within the broader NDA framework.

Response to Chief Minister's Remarks

Dhinakaran also responded to recent comments by Chief Minister M K Stalin in Kanyakumari, where Stalin suggested that frequent visits by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Tamil Nadu would only widen the NDA's defeat margin. Dhinakaran countered this by saying it is the chief minister who is "fearful." He alleged that Stalin is facing mounting pressure from the Congress and political challenges from TVK leader Vijay, and accused him of making such statements to deflect public attention from these internal pressures.

This exchange highlights the escalating political tensions in Tamil Nadu as election preparations intensify. Dhinakaran's remarks aim to position the AMMK as a key player in the NDA's electoral strategy, while dismissing any notions of sidelining through Rajya Sabha nominations.
