DMK Front's Statewide Protest Highlights Alleged Neglect of Tamil Nadu in Union Budget
The DMK-led alliance in Tamil Nadu orchestrated a massive statewide protest, condemning what they termed as the "neglect" of the state in the recent Union Budget. This demonstration served as a powerful display of strength and unity among the coalition partners, with participation reported from approximately 1,500 locations across Tamil Nadu.
Widespread Participation Across Alliance Parties
In a significant show of solidarity, cadres and local leaders from all constituent parties of the DMK front actively joined the protests. In Chennai, the event saw the involvement of prominent figures from the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC), MDMK, VCK, CPM, CPI, Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi, and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML). TNCC president K Selvaperunthagai notably shared the stage with DMK leaders and other allies, emphasizing the collective stance against the budgetary allocations.
Strong Criticism from Political Leaders
K Selvaperunthagai launched a sharp critique against the BJP-led Union government, accusing it of neglecting Tamil Nadu for the past twelve years. He asserted, "Not even a single paise was allocated to Tamil Nadu in the Union Budget. Since they are sure of their electoral defeat, they boycotted our state." This sentiment was echoed by CPM state secretary P Shanmugam, who highlighted broader national issues, stating, "Unemployment is a major problem, but there is no scheme in the budget to create employment." He further argued that the budget failed to address any of the pressing problems faced by the Indian populace.
Chief Minister's Firm Stance on Social Media
Chief Minister M K Stalin reinforced the protest's message through a post on X, warning that Tamil Nadu would not remain passive if the BJP government continues to provide "zero" for the state in budgetary matters. He declared, "We will give zero in return to the BJP for indulging in gross injustice," signaling a potential political retaliation in response to the perceived unfair treatment.
The protests underscore the escalating tensions between the DMK front and the central government, with the alliance leveraging this event to mobilize support and voice discontent over economic policies affecting Tamil Nadu.
