DMK Leaders Submit Applications for Assembly Election Tickets
In a significant political development, several prominent DMK leaders submitted their applications for party tickets for the upcoming assembly election at Anna Arivalayam, the party headquarters in Chennai, on Friday. The event marked the culmination of the application process, drawing attention from across Tamil Nadu's political landscape.
Senior Leaders File Applications
Minister E V Velu, accompanied by enthusiastic supporters, formally filed his application for the Tiruvannamalai constituency. He emphasized the historical significance of the constituency, noting that it has been a DMK stronghold since the party first contested elections in 1957. "The trend will continue," Velu confidently stated, highlighting the party's enduring legacy in the region.
Former Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi N Somu also submitted an application, seeking a party ticket to contest in the election. Her participation underscores the diverse representation within the DMK's candidate pool.
Confidence from Party Stalwarts
V Senthil Balaji, recognized as the party's key figure in the western belt, expressed strong optimism about DMK's prospects. He pointed to the party's performance in the 2021 assembly election as a foundation for future success, asserting that the DMK is poised to achieve a massive victory in the upcoming polls.
New Entrants Make Their Mark
A notable development was the submission of applications by P Ravindhranath Kumar, son of former chief minister O Panneerselvam. Kumar, who joined the DMK along with his father on February 27, filed applications for himself to contest from the Andipatti and Bodinayakanur constituencies. Additionally, he submitted an application on behalf of his father for the Bodinayakanur constituency.
Kumar elaborated on his proposals, suggesting that Chief Minister M K Stalin and Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin be considered for candidature in three constituencies within the Theni district: Andipatti, Cumbum, and Bodinayakanur. This move highlights the strategic considerations within the party's ticket distribution process.
Following their induction into the DMK, Panneerselvam has expressed willingness to contest under the party's 'Rising Sun' symbol. Party leadership has reportedly assured him or his son a seat, reflecting the DMK's efforts to integrate new members into its electoral strategy.
Overwhelming Response from Aspirants
According to party insiders, the DMK received an impressive total of more than 15,000 applications from aspirants seeking tickets. This includes sitting ministers, legislators, and numerous senior leaders who submitted their applications through supporters. The high volume of applications indicates robust internal competition and widespread interest in representing the party in the assembly election.
