DMK Unveils Candidate Strategy for Coimbatore District in Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections
The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has officially announced its list of candidates for the upcoming Tamil Nadu assembly elections, with a focused strategy for the crucial Coimbatore district. On Saturday, the party revealed that it will field its own candidates in seven out of the ten constituencies in the district, while allocating the remaining three seats to its alliance partners.
Key Alliances and Seat Distribution
In a move to strengthen its electoral prospects, the DMK has allocated two seats to the Indian National Congress and one seat to the Kongunadu Makkal Desiya Katchi (KMDK). This distribution underscores the party's efforts to maintain coalition harmony while targeting a strong performance in the region.
Highlight: V Senthil Balaji's Candidacy in Coimbatore South
The most notable aspect of the DMK's candidate list for Coimbatore district is the nomination of former minister V Senthil Balaji. He will be contesting from the Coimbatore South assembly constituency, marking a significant shift from his traditional Karur turf. This strategic relocation is aimed at addressing internal party factions that have previously hindered the DMK's electoral success in Coimbatore district.
In the 2021 assembly elections, the DMK failed to secure any victories in the district, a setback the party hopes to overcome with Balaji's candidacy. The party leadership believes that his experience and influence can unify various factions and effectively manage the campaign across all ten assembly constituencies in Coimbatore.
Opposition and Rival Claims
In Coimbatore South, Senthil Balaji will face off against AIADMK's Amman K Arjunan. Arjunan has expressed confidence in his chances, claiming that Balaji moved to Coimbatore out of fear of defeat in Karur district. "Senthil Balaji is afraid of defeat in Karur district. That's why he moved to Coimbatore. But I will defeat him with a margin of more than 50,000 votes," Arjunan stated boldly.
