Drug Peddler Attacks Mob in Dhubri, Two Injured

Two persons sustained serious injuries when a drug peddler, Ashraful Haque, attacked a mob protesting against his illegal drug business at Bheta Bazar on Friday. A police source confirmed that Haque has been detained and is currently being interrogated.

Police Response and Mob Action

Upon receiving information about the incident, police arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control. However, by then, a mob of nearly 500 residents had damaged a motorbike and ransacked Haque’s house.

Local Allegations

Locals of the Bheta Bazar area alleged that Haque had been running a drug syndicate from his residence for a long time, despite several warnings to stop the business. Speaking to TOI, a resident named Azizul Rahman said, “All day long, there is a queue of youths in front of his house to buy drugs. Haque even set up a counter in front of his house. Despite several complaints to the police, no action has been taken against the peddler.”
