Ernakulam Police Seize 4kg Ganja, Four Arrested

Kochi: Ernakulam rural police arrested four individuals with over 4kg of ganja on Saturday night. The arrested individuals have been identified as Rakeebul Sheikh, 30, Hasibal Sheikh, 30, Samrat Sheikh, 36, and Sanjeeb Mandal, 48, all hailing from Murshidabad, West Bengal. They were arrested by a special investigation team led by Perumbavoor ASP.

Operation Details

The accused were taken into custody from Kunnuvazhi on Saturday night. The inspection was carried out following a tip-off received by Ernakulam rural district police chief K S Sudarshan. The accused reached Aluva by train from Odisha and were caught while travelling toward Perumbavoor in two autorickshaws from there. The accused told police they hired two autorickshaws to avoid being caught.

Drug Trafficking Modus Operandi

The ganja, bought in Odisha at Rs 5,000 per kg, was sold here for Rs 30,000. After selling it, the accused were planning to return to West Bengal the same day. Police are investigating the buyers who purchased ganja from them.

Investigation Team

The team was led by Perumbavoor ASP Hardik Meena. Inspector L Anilkumar and SIs Jojo George, Vishnu Murali and ASIs P A Abdul Manaf, Pradeep Kumar, Jayanti and senior CPOs Afsal, Benny Isaac, Nishad and Robin Joy; CPOs Sibin Sunny, Najmi, Arun and Bechu were part of the investigation team.
