CHENNAI: Former BJP functionary and three-time MLA S Vijayadharani is poised to join Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on Saturday. She, accompanied by her supporters, arrived at the ruling party’s Panaiyur headquarters to officially become a member in the presence of its general secretary and Rural Development minister N Anand.
Electoral Performance
Vijayadharani contested the April 23 Assembly election from Vilavancode on a BJP ticket but finished third with 45,604 votes. Congress candidate T T Praveen emerged victorious, while TVK's Michael Kumar secured the second position.
Political Background
A former Congress leader, Vijayadharani represented the Vilavancode constituency for three consecutive terms in 2011, 2016, and 2021. She resigned as MLA in February 2024, citing insufficient recognition for her seniority and contributions. Subsequently, she joined the BJP at its New Delhi headquarters, praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership.
New Chapter
After spending over two years in the BJP without a significant position or responsibility, Vijayadharani decided to leave the party and join chief minister C Joseph Vijay’s TVK, marking a fresh start in her political career.
