A former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) corporator died by suicide in a tragic incident in Davanagere district in the early hours of Sunday. The deceased, identified as Chandrashekhar Sankola, 56, took his own life by setting himself on fire inside his car.
Family Dispute Precedes Tragedy
The events leading to the extreme step began on Saturday night at the family's home in Shamanur village. A severe financial dispute erupted between Chandrashekhar and his children. The argument escalated dramatically, resulting in both his son and daughter attempting to end their lives.
His daughter, Pavitra (23), attempted suicide by hanging herself at their residence. Simultaneously, his son, Naresh (20), consumed poison. Both siblings were rushed to a private hospital where they were admitted and began receiving urgent medical treatment.
The Final Act of Despair
After ensuring his children were hospitalized, Chandrashekhar reportedly went to his farm located in Bisleri village near Naganur in Davanagere taluk. In the early hours of Sunday, he sat inside his car, poured petrol, and set himself ablaze. The vehicle was completely gutted in the fire.

Senior police officials visited the grim site to conduct a thorough investigation. A case has been registered at the Hadadi police station regarding the incident.
