Kolkata: Former CPM MLA Tanmay Bhattacharya visited the BJP state headquarters at Salt Lake on Friday to meet Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya. However, with Samik absent, the former MLA held a meeting with Bengal BJP spokesperson Debjit Sarkar instead.
Meeting Details
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Tanmay Bhattacharya clarified his purpose. "I came here to seek security for a CPM neta. He used to get state security earlier but it was withdrawn. I have no intention of switching sides," he said.
The former MLA's visit sparked speculation about a possible political shift, but his statement aimed to dispel such rumors. The meeting lasted for about an hour, during which the security issue was discussed in detail.
Background
Tanmay Bhattacharya is a prominent CPM leader in West Bengal. The security withdrawal for the unnamed CPM leader has raised concerns within the party. The BJP state unit has not yet commented on the request.
