The Palayamkottai police have arrested a 30-year-old former software engineer on Monday for allegedly uploading an abusive video targeting Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on social media. The accused, identified as James Raja, a resident of the Munnirpallam area, used derogatory language against the Chief Minister while referencing a recent child rape and murder case in Coimbatore.
Swift Police Action
Acting on complaints, the Palayamkottai police registered a case against James Raja under multiple sections. The charges include intentionally insulting and provoking a breach of peace, propagating false information, criminal intimidation, and promoting hatred or ill-will between different groups on grounds of religion, race, or language.
Arrest and Remand
Following an initial inquiry, James was placed under arrest on Monday, produced before a local court, and subsequently remanded in judicial custody. The police acted promptly to ensure legal proceedings were initiated without delay.
Background of the Accused
Investigation revealed that James Raja is a qualified computer engineering graduate who had previously worked with several technology firms. His background as a former techie adds a layer of irony to the case, given his technical expertise and the nature of the crime.
The case highlights the growing concern over misuse of social media platforms to spread abusive and inflammatory content. The police have urged citizens to use social media responsibly and refrain from posting content that could incite violence or hatred.
