Guwahati: In a significant breakthrough, officers from Jagiroad police station dismantled a fake lottery racket in Jagiroad on Friday, resulting in the arrest of three individuals allegedly involved in running the scam. The operation was initiated following multiple complaints from local residents who reported being deceived under the pretext of winning lottery prizes, according to police officials.

Arrests and Identification

The officer-in-charge (OC) of Jagiroad police station, Brajeshwar Pegu, identified the arrested individuals as Ali Akbar, Nirajul Islam, and Ashraful Islam. All three hail from the Nagaon district of Assam.

Modus Operandi

According to the OC, the gang allegedly printed counterfeit lottery tickets and distributed them through various social media platforms, along with contact numbers. These tickets falsely claimed that winners would receive vehicles as prizes, enticing victims to get in touch with the gang.
