Koraput: Alleging irregularities in the paddy procurement process for the Rabi marketing season, members of the Krushak Kalyan Manch staged a dharna in front of the district civil supplies office in Jeypore on Tuesday. The agitating farmers later submitted a memorandum to the district administration through the civil supplies officer, seeking immediate intervention to address a host of procurement-related issues.

The protest was led by Krushak Kalyan Manch secretary Narendra Kumar Pradhan, who claimed that several farmers across the district were facing difficulties in selling paddy due to alleged irregularities at procurement centres. He highlighted that the issues ranged from unfair weighing practices to delays in payments, causing significant distress among the farming community.

Demands of the Farmers

The memorandum submitted by the protesters demanded a thorough investigation into the alleged malpractices and strict action against those responsible. They also sought the establishment of more procurement centres in remote areas to ease the process for farmers. Additionally, the farmers called for transparency in the weighing and grading of paddy to ensure fair compensation.
