In a deeply tragic incident that has shaken a village in Bihar, a daily wage labourer and his three young daughters died by suicide early Monday morning. The event occurred in Nawalpur Mishrauliya village, falling under the Sakra police station area of Muzaffarpur district.
The Horrific Sequence of Events
Police identified the deceased as Amarnath Ram (40) and his three daughters: Radha Kumari (11), Radhika (9), and Shivani (7). According to the preliminary investigation, Amarnath first hanged his three daughters and then took his own life in the same manner.
Shockingly, police stated that Amarnath had also asked his two young sons, Shivam Kumar (6) and Chandan (4), to end their lives. However, the boys somehow managed to escape the horrific fate. The police have sent all four bodies to a government hospital for postmortem and have initiated a detailed investigation into the case.
A Brother's Harrowing Account
Amarnath's brother, Sitaram, provided a chilling account of the discovery. "Around 4 am, Shivam came running to me," Sitaram said. "He told me his father had hanged everyone and then himself. I immediately rushed to the spot and saw four people, including my brother and his three daughters, hanging from the noose."
The family's struggles began a year ago when Amarnath's wife died after an illness. She had worked as a domestic help. Following her death, Amarnath was left alone to raise their five children, relying solely on his income as a daily wage labourer. The family's survival was heavily dependent on government ration supplies.
A Life of Extreme Hardship
Villagers painted a picture of profound deprivation. Amarnath and his children lived in a thatched hut without an electricity connection and lacked basic facilities. The children did not attend school, as providing books, notebooks, uniforms, and fees was completely beyond Amarnath's financial capacity. Meeting even the most basic daily necessities like food and clothing had become an overwhelming burden for him.
Manoj Kumar Singh, the SDPO East-II of Muzaffarpur, confirmed that police reached the scene after receiving information. The bodies were brought down and sent for autopsy. "So far, it appears the four died by suicide. The exact reason behind this extreme step is not yet clear. A thorough investigation is underway," the SDPO stated.
The Survivors' Terrifying Ordeal
Providing further harrowing details, SDPO Singh said the surviving sons revealed their father's method. Amarnath had fashioned nooses from his deceased wife's saree and put them around the necks of all five children. He then asked them to climb onto a trunk and jump from it.
The three sisters jumped along with their father. Shivam also jumped, but when the pressure of the noose began hurting his throat, he managed to loosen it and free himself. Showing incredible presence of mind for a six-year-old, he then removed the noose from his younger brother Chandan's neck. The two boys then ran outside and started shouting for help, which alerted their uncle.
The incident has cast a pall of gloom over Nawalpur Mishrauliya village, raising serious questions about social safety nets and support for families living in extreme poverty.
