A violent clash erupted between a police team and locals during a land dispute in Fazilka on Sunday, resulting in personnel being allegedly manhandled, with a video of the incident circulating widely on social media.
Police Action and Arrests
According to officials, at least eight individuals have been booked in connection with the case, including four named accused. Two suspects have been arrested so far, while efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining absconders.
Details of the Incident
Khui Khera Station House Officer (SHO) Pargat Singh stated that the police received information regarding a dispute over a three-kanal plot in Muradwala Bhomgarh village between two related parties. Upon arrival, the police team initially managed to pacify the situation and removed a tractor present at the site. One party had accused the other of encroachment, which had escalated tensions. Police counseled both sides, advising them to resolve the matter through legal channels.
However, as the team was departing, members of one group allegedly surrounded the personnel and engaged in a heated argument, which quickly turned into a scuffle. During the altercation, a police officer's turban was forcibly removed, and several uniforms were torn.
Injuries Sustained
Three policemen, including the SHO, sustained minor injuries in the incident. They received medical attention and were later discharged.
The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and are investigating the matter further. Authorities have urged the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and to settle disputes through proper legal procedures.
