Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday vouched for the quality and potential of groundnut produced in Yadgir district, stating that the region contributes significantly to the state's agricultural output. Speaking after inaugurating the Women-led Farmers’ Training Centre and Common Facility Centre (CFC) for Agro-Processing unit under the MPLADS project at Baddepalli village in Yadgir district, she highlighted that the district produces 22,500 metric tonnes of groundnut annually.
Empowering Women Farmers
The newly inaugurated training centre is designed to empower women farmers by providing them with modern agricultural techniques and processing skills. The CFC aims to enhance the value chain for groundnut and other crops, enabling farmers to get better prices for their produce. Sitharaman emphasized that such initiatives are crucial for doubling farmers' income and promoting sustainable agriculture.
Yadgir's Agricultural Potential
Yadgir, known for its arid climate, has shown remarkable potential in groundnut cultivation. The Finance Minister noted that the district's groundnut is of high quality and can be marketed nationally. She urged farmers to adopt best practices and leverage government schemes to boost productivity and profitability.
The event saw participation from local farmers, women self-help groups, and district officials. The MPLADS project, funded through the local MP's constituency development funds, underscores the government's commitment to rural development and women-led growth.
Sitharaman also interacted with the women farmers, encouraging them to take leadership roles in agriculture and agro-processing. She assured continued support from the central government for such grassroots initiatives.
