Former AIADMK MLA V N P Venkatraman joined the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in the presence of former Chief Minister M K Stalin at the DMK headquarters in Chennai on Thursday. Venkatraman, who served as the MLA of the Alandur constituency in 2014, made the switch along with several other AIADMK functionaries who accompanied him to the DMK office.
Speaking to reporters after joining the party, Venkatraman expressed his satisfaction with the move, stating that he was happy to now work under “a stable leadership.” He did not elaborate on the reasons for leaving the AIADMK but emphasized his confidence in the DMK's leadership under Stalin.
The joining ceremony was attended by senior DMK leaders and party workers, who welcomed Venkatraman and his supporters into the fold. This development is seen as a significant political shift in Tamil Nadu, as it marks another defection from the AIADMK to the ruling DMK.
Venkatraman's entry into the DMK is expected to strengthen the party's presence in the Alandur region and potentially influence local political dynamics. The DMK has been actively expanding its base ahead of upcoming local body elections, and this addition is likely to boost its organizational strength.
