In a significant breakthrough, the Mugalsarai police of Chandauli district apprehended four individuals on Wednesday, accused of looting Rs 1.34 lakh from a man on May 21 near Chaurhat. The arrested suspects, aged between 19 and 21 years, have been identified as Aryan Shrivastava, Shivang Pandey, Mohammad Tariq Ansari, and Dev Sarkar alias Dayal.
Details of the Incident
According to police reports, the accused targeted Mehtab Ahmed, a cashier employed with a firm, while he was returning to his office after collecting dues amounting to Rs 1.34 lakh in cash from shopkeepers in Padav market on May 21. The victim had gathered the money as part of his routine collection duties.
Investigation and Arrest
Following the complaint lodged by the victim, the police registered a First Information Report (FIR) and launched an intensive investigation. The authorities scrutinized footage from nearly 70 CCTV cameras installed along the probable escape routes used by the looters. The breakthrough came on Wednesday when informers alerted the police about the presence of the four accused near a marriage lawn in Chaurhat village.
Chandauli ASP Ananth Chandrashekhar confirmed that the police team promptly reached the location and arrested all four suspects. During the operation, law enforcement officials recovered Rs 60,000 in cash, two motorcycles used in the commission of the crime, four mobile phones, and the victim's bag from the possession of the accused.
Confessions and Motive
During interrogation, the arrested individuals disclosed the names of their accomplices who assisted them in their criminal activities. They admitted that they engaged in crimes such as looting to fund a lavish lifestyle and fulfill the demands of their girlfriends. The suspects also revealed that they had divided the stolen cash among themselves after the incident.
The police continue to investigate the case and are working to apprehend the remaining associates involved in the crime. The swift action by the Mugalsarai police has been widely appreciated, and further legal proceedings are underway.
