Gangotri National Highway Closed Amid Heavy Snowfall in Uttarkashi
In Uttarkashi district, relentless snowfall and severe weather conditions have led to the complete closure of the Gangotri National Highway beyond Sukki Top. The accumulation of snow on the roadway has brought all vehicular movement to a standstill, causing significant disruptions to local traffic and connectivity.
Snowfall Impacts High-Altitude Regions
According to administrative reports, continuous snowfall is persisting in high-altitude areas, including the Harsil Valley. This has resulted in several feet of snow piling up around Sukki Top, effectively blocking the highway and severing access to numerous villages in the region.
Emergency Response by Border Roads Organisation
In response to the crisis, teams from the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) have been swiftly deployed to the site. They are conducting intensive snow-clearing operations using heavy machinery in an effort to reopen the route as quickly as possible. The BRO's rapid intervention aims to restore normalcy and ensure safe passage for residents and travelers.
The situation underscores the challenges posed by adverse weather in mountainous regions, highlighting the importance of prompt infrastructure management during such natural events.
