The Goa Forward Party has launched a scathing attack on the state government, questioning its commitment to combating drug abuse and expressing grave concerns that Goa is becoming a sanctuary for drug trafficking networks. "From Beaches to Schools": Drug Spread Reaches Alarming Levels
Sardesai painted a disturbing picture of drug proliferation across Goa, stating that narcotics have infiltrated every corner of the state. "From our pristine beaches to the rural hinterland and even educational institutions, drugs are spreading at an alarming rate," declared the Fatorda MLA. He emphasized that despite this widespread penetration, the government continues to adopt a passive approach, effectively looking the other way while the crisis deepens.
The GFP leader posed a direct challenge to the ruling administration: "How long will the BJP-led government continue to protect these drug networks while Goa's youth pay the devastating price?" His remarks highlight growing frustration with what opposition parties perceive as governmental negligence toward a critical public health and safety issue.
Longstanding Warnings Ignored Since 2022
Sardesai revealed that he has been consistently raising alarms about the expanding drug menace since 2022, including during formal legislative assembly sessions. "I have repeatedly warned that Goa cannot be allowed to transform into a narcotics hub," he stated, expressing disappointment that his concerns have been systematically disregarded by authorities. The politician's persistent efforts to bring this issue to the forefront suggest a pattern of institutional indifference toward drug-related problems.
Calangute Incident Sparks Renewed Criticism
The GFP's criticism gained additional momentum following a disturbing incident in Calangute, where a foreign tourist recently posted a video showing two men openly approaching him with drug sales offers. This public documentation of drug peddling in a popular tourist destination has intensified scrutiny of law enforcement effectiveness and governmental priorities.
Sardesai's statements underscore a broader political confrontation regarding drug policy enforcement in Goa. The opposition party is positioning itself as the voice demanding urgent intervention, while questioning whether the current administration possesses the political will to address what they describe as an escalating public health emergency threatening Goa's social fabric and international reputation.
