Ghaziabad Slum Fire Destroys 12 Shanties, Four Cars

A devastating fire erupted in the slums of Vasundhara Sector 3 in Ghaziabad on Monday, completely destroying 12 shanties and damaging four parked cars. Local residents and fire department personnel worked together to rescue nearly 30 people and over a dozen cattle from the inferno.

Fire Incident Details

Chief Fire Officer Rahul Pal reported that the fire department received a call from locals at 3 PM. The presence of flammable materials in the cluster caused the fire to spread rapidly, engulfing the shanties and nearby vehicles within moments. Before the fire tenders arrived, residents managed to untie the cattle and move them to safety.

Explosions and Firefighting Efforts

At least six LPG cylinders stored in the shanties exploded one after another, creating panic among the residents. More than ten fire tenders were deployed, and the blaze was brought under control within one and a half hours. The exact cause of the fire has not been determined yet, but officials suspect it may have been triggered by a short circuit.

Possible Cause

A source revealed that due to a shortage of LPG cylinders, many slum dwellers had resorted to cooking on wood-fired stoves. High flames from one such stove might have sparked the fire.

Second Fire Incident

Another fire broke out at LN Electronics Company, located adjacent to NH 24, around 4:30 PM. High flames from the company premises were visible from a distance. Fire department officials evacuated employees from the factory, which manufactures fans. The CFO stated that more than 20 fire engines from Ghaziabad, Noida, and Meerut were called to douse the flames. Efforts to extinguish the fire were still underway at the time of filing this report.
