A horrific incident of rape and murder of a girl from the Vishwakarma community in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, has triggered a sharp political backlash. The victim's family was allegedly threatened and prevented from filing a First Information Report (FIR).
Political Leaders React
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took to social media to condemn the incident, drawing parallels with previous cases in Hathras, Kathua, and Unnao. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he said, 'This is a pattern. The daughter of Manipur died waiting for justice. Every time the same...'
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav also criticized the state government, alleging that the BJP administration has institutionalized a trend where 'dominant ruling forces commit atrocities and then pressure victims to change their statements.' He called it 'the most inhuman form of injustice, taking advantage of a poor person's helplessness.'
Demand for Justice
Opposition leaders have demanded swift action and impartial investigation. The incident has reignited debate over law and order in Uttar Pradesh under the BJP government. The victim's family continues to seek justice, while police have assured that the accused will be apprehended soon.
