Andhra Pradesh Government Enforces Official Spelling of Capital as 'Amaravati'
The Andhra Pradesh state government has taken a firm stance to standardize the spelling of its capital city by issuing a mandatory directive. In a recent circular memo, authorities have instructed all official communications to use the spelling 'Amaravati', addressing instances where the name was incorrectly written as 'Amaravathi' in government orders and records.
Clarification from Chief Secretary G Sai Prasad
The circular, issued by Chief Secretary G Sai Prasad, references Government Order (GO) 97 from the municipal administration and urban development department, dated April 23, 2015. This order formally notified 'Amaravati' as the capital city's name, a decision made after careful consideration of Telugu history and the state's aspirations. Prasad emphasized that this spelling must be adhered to for all official purposes to maintain accuracy and respect the cultural significance.
Corrective Measures for Uniformity
The memo highlighted that deviations from the notified spelling have been observed in various government documents, including orders and correspondence. To rectify this, the government has mandated corrective instructions to ensure uniformity across all platforms. Key points from the directive include:
- All secretariat departments and heads of departments must use only 'Amaravati' in official communications.
- District collectors and other offices are instructed to implement this spelling in government orders, proceedings, reports, and digital records.
- Strict compliance is required from all concerned authorities to avoid future discrepancies.
The circular was issued with the approval of the chief secretary and has been circulated to all departments, district collectors, and related offices for immediate implementation. This move aims to streamline administrative processes and uphold the integrity of official documentation.
