Gujarat Government Reassures Public on Fuel Availability Amid Rumors
In Gandhinagar, the Gujarat government has issued a firm statement to dispel rumors of a petrol and diesel shortage, as citizens flocked to fuel stations in a state of panic. Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, after a high-level meeting with department officials, emphasized that there are adequate stocks of fuel across the state and urged people to refrain from spreading or believing false information.
Government's Assurance and Monitoring Efforts
Harsh Sanghavi clarified that Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has been conducting regular reviews of the fuel stock situation every two days to ensure stability. "There is no need for the public to hoard fuel or panic," he stated, adding that continuous monitoring is in place to guarantee all petrol pumps receive regular supplies. Any technical issues in the supply chain will be addressed promptly, and officials will take strict action against those found disseminating rumors about shortages.
Joint Statement from Authorities
In a coordinated effort, the state government, Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL), and the Petroleum Dealers' Association released a joint statement to reassure the public. Additional Chief Secretary of the Food and Civil Supplies Department, Mona Khandhar, echoed Sanghavi's sentiments, insisting that sufficient buffer stocks are available and long queues at petrol pumps are unnecessary. She warned that legal action will be taken against any dealer who deliberately closes pumps or harasses the public despite having stock.
Industry Confirmation and Public Advisory
Quoting Sanjib Kumar Behera, the state nodal officer and executive director of IOCL, the statement confirmed that all depots and terminals in Gujarat maintain adequate inventory. Citizens are advised to avoid lining up unnecessarily and can access fuel as needed. The government's proactive measures aim to prevent panic buying and ensure smooth fuel distribution throughout the state.
