Massive Security Deployment Planned for Gujarat's 2026 Civic Elections
In a major security initiative, the Gujarat Police will deploy more than one lakh personnel to maintain law and order during the upcoming 2026 civic body and local self-government elections. Officials announced this comprehensive plan on Tuesday, emphasizing the need for a peaceful electoral process across the state.
High-Level Meeting Finalizes Deployment Strategy
The deployment strategy was finalized during a crucial video conference chaired by Director General of Police K L N Rao. The meeting included police commissioners, district police chiefs, and range officers from across Gujarat, focusing on detailed security arrangements and the precise allocation of forces.
According to official statements, the deployment will consist of 59,525 Home Guards and GRD personnel, supplemented by an additional 41,383 forces. This massive contingent will be stationed across various polling areas to ensure smooth operations.
Scope of the Elections and Security Measures
The 2026 elections are extensive, covering 15 municipal corporations, 84 municipalities, bypolls in 13 municipalities, 34 district panchayats, and 260 taluka panchayat seats. To manage this vast electoral landscape, police have been instructed to intensify patrolling in sensitive areas and maintain continuous monitoring of the law and order situation.
Officials have also been directed to strengthen security at inter-district and state borders to regulate movement during the election period. This measure aims to prevent any disruptions and ensure that the polling process remains orderly.
Ensuring Peaceful and Fair Elections
The primary objective of this deployment is to guarantee that the elections are conducted in a peaceful and fair manner. Police units have been tasked with ensuring uninterrupted communication systems to facilitate real-time coordination and response.
The state police emphasized that this large-scale deployment is aimed at enabling smooth and orderly polling across all regions of Gujarat. By mobilizing over 100,000 personnel, authorities are taking proactive steps to address potential challenges and uphold the integrity of the democratic process.
