Gujarat Government Reports Massive Liquor Seizures and Enforcement Actions

The Gujarat government disclosed on Monday that it has seized liquor valued at over Rs 42 crore from border checkposts near Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh over the past two years. This information was provided in a written reply to a question posed by Congress MLA Imran Khedawala during the state assembly session.

Details of the Seized Liquor

According to the official response, authorities confiscated 10,49,855 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), with an estimated worth of Rs 38.89 crore, and 1,59,265 bottles of beer, valued at Rs 3.33 crore. These seizures occurred during a two-year period ending on January 25. In connection with these operations, 1,018 individuals were arrested, while 141 suspects remain absconding.

Cases Against Illegal Liquor Consumption

In a separate reply to AAP legislator Gopal Italia, the state government revealed that 32,465 cases were registered over two years against people found consuming liquor without a permit in Ahmedabad and Vadodara districts. Specifically, 17,311 cases were filed in Ahmedabad district, and 15,154 cases were recorded in Vadodara district as of December 31, 2025.

Enforcement Measures and Preventive Actions

The government outlined various actions being taken to control liquor smuggling, emphasizing preventive measures against those involved in supplying alcohol. These measures include filing cases under prohibition provisions and initiating actions under the Prevention of Anti-Social Activities (PASA) Act. The state's strict enforcement aims to curb illegal activities and maintain compliance with prohibition laws.
