Gujarat Assembly Reveals Key Financial and Operational Details
The Gujarat government made several significant disclosures in the state assembly on Wednesday, covering topics ranging from tourism funding to police infrastructure. These announcements provide insight into public expenditure and event management in the state.
Helicopter Joyride Operator Receives Substantial Viability Gap Funding
In a detailed response, the government stated that Ms Aero Trans Services, the operator of helicopter joyride services from the Sabarmati riverfront, was granted viability gap funding (VGF) totaling Rs 1.03 crore over two years. Specifically, the company received Rs 87.19 lakh in 2024 and Rs 16.40 lakh in 2025. VGF is a financial mechanism used to support projects that are economically justified but not financially viable, indicating the government's commitment to boosting tourism and recreational activities in Ahmedabad.
Rannotsav 2025 Attracts Record Visitors and Generates Significant Revenue
The government also provided updates on the popular Rannotsav festival. According to the assembly reply, the 2025 edition of Rannotsav welcomed 9.41 lakh visitors, marking an increase from the 8.55 lakh attendees in 2024. This growth highlights the event's rising popularity and its role in promoting Gujarat's cultural heritage.
In a written response to a question by Abdasa BJP MLA Pradyumansinh Jadeja, the government further disclosed that revenue of Rs 17.06 crore was earned from the Rannotsav event over two years. This substantial income underscores the festival's economic impact and its contribution to the state's tourism sector.
Ahmedabad Police Stations Function in Rented Premises
On the infrastructure front, the government informed the assembly that 13 buildings of police stations in Ahmedabad city are currently operating in rented premises. This includes:
- The office of the assistant commissioner of police, A Division
- The Sabarmati Riverfront West police station
- 11 police chowkies
This revelation points to potential challenges in police infrastructure and the need for permanent facilities to ensure efficient law enforcement operations in the city.
These disclosures, made during the assembly session, reflect the government's transparency in sharing financial and operational data with the public, covering diverse areas from tourism initiatives to public safety infrastructure.
