Gumla Administration Completes Full Preparation for Urban Local Body Elections

The Gumla district administration in Jharkhand has declared itself fully prepared to conduct a free, fair, safe, and peaceful urban local body election. All necessary training sessions and the randomisation of polling parties were successfully completed on Saturday, ensuring a smooth electoral process.

Voter Demographics and Candidate Details

Approximately 39,000 voters are set to cast their ballots in this significant democratic exercise. The electorate comprises 18,524 male voters and 20,765 female voters, highlighting a strong female participation. These voters will elect one chairperson from among nine women candidates and 22 ward councillors from a total pool of 120 candidates. Notably, 54 of these candidates are women nominees, reflecting a diverse and inclusive contest for the Gumla Nagar Parishad (GNP).

Polling Infrastructure and Logistics

Returning Officer Rajiv Kumar provided detailed insights into the polling arrangements. A total of 44 polling stations have been established across 26 buildings, strategically spread over the territories of 22 wards. This setup is designed to facilitate easy access for all voters and ensure efficient management on election day.

Training and Randomisation Processes

In the lead-up to the polls, the administration conducted comprehensive training sessions. On Friday, the training for sector magistrates and receiving staff was concluded. Additionally, two rounds of randomisation for polling parties were carried out, along with all necessary training for these parties. An officer involved in the process emphasized that these steps are critical to maintaining transparency and preventing any biases, thereby upholding the integrity of the election.

The meticulous preparation underscores the administration's commitment to a democratic and orderly election, setting a benchmark for urban local body polls in the region.
