Enforcement teams in Gurgaon dramatically escalated their anti-encroachment operations on Sunday, deploying bulldozers across multiple upscale neighborhoods. The drive targeted illegal extensions of houses and commercial establishments that were obstructing public right of way, following a recent court order that prompted strict governmental action.
Court Order Triggers Aggressive Enforcement
The intensified campaign comes directly after the Punjab and Haryana High Court stayed the controversial stilt+four-floor (S+4) policy. This judicial intervention has pushed the government into a rigorous enforcement mode, with authorities moving swiftly to clear encroachments that have long plagued the city's infrastructure.
District Town Planner (Enforcement) Amit Madholia led the operation, coordinating eight simultaneous teams across Gurgaon. Officials reported that Sunday's actions were significantly more extensive and executed at a faster pace compared to the initial day of the drive.
Major Operations Across Key Locations
Golf Course Road: A substantial operation focused on service lanes where commercial establishments had illegally extended their structures onto road spaces. Authorities demolished these encroachments that were operating under the guise of business activities.
DLF-1, A Block Extension: The administration conducted one of its largest sweeps in this area, inspecting approximately 30 lanes covering around 378 houses. Action was taken against more than 300 properties, with officials also removing over 125 encroachments from green areas including illegal parks, planters, and landscaping features.
Multiple Structures Removed: The drive targeted various illegal constructions including:
- Guard rooms and security structures
- Fencing and boundary walls
- Ramps and steps extending onto roads
- Parking sheds and temporary structures
Officials confirmed that more than 30 guard rooms and numerous ramps were demolished, helping restore the full width of roads that had become dangerously narrow due to encroachments.
Resistance and Protests Surface
The aggressive drive sparked strong protests in parts of DLF-1, particularly in A Block Extension. Several residents objected as bulldozers removed structures outside their homes, with some accusing the administration of harassment and threatening legal action. Tensions briefly escalated, requiring police intervention to maintain order.
Officials defended their actions as necessary for public safety. "In many stretches, roads had effectively disappeared due to encroachments on both sides. Vehicles could barely pass. This situation cannot continue," explained one official involved in the operation.
Widespread Impact Across Gurgaon
The anti-encroachment drive extended to numerous other upscale colonies:
South City-1: Teams removed illegal constructions, guard rooms, lawn grilles, and 12 advertisement boards. Notices were issued for 11 DG sets found on public land, with two removed immediately.
Palam Vihar: Encroachments including fencing and road-extending structures were cleared from more than 70 houses in H and E blocks.
Sushant Lok-3: Demolition included guard rooms, gates, ramps, boundary walls, and green area encroachments at approximately 70 locations.
Rosewood City and Ardee City: Both areas saw removal of guard rooms, ramps, steps, fencing, and in Ardee City's case, more than 40 fences and several hoardings.
Vipul World and Suncity: Authorities cleared illegal barricading in green areas along with various structures including parking sheds, ramps, steps, and guard rooms.
No Let-Up in Enforcement
Madholia emphasized that the drive would continue at full intensity over the next three days. "We already urged residents to remove encroachments voluntarily. Now, strict action is being taken against violators. This is a court-driven exercise, and there will be no let-up until every inch of encroached public land is reclaimed," he stated firmly.
The campaign will systematically cover all licensed colonies in phases, with teams operating simultaneously to meet the April 22 deadline. With enforcement now in full swing and resistance emerging on the ground, Gurgaon is witnessing one of its most aggressive urban clean-up operations in recent memory.
