The Municipal Corporation of Manesar (MCM) has directed its officials to develop a comprehensive framework for rainwater harvesting and intensify water conservation efforts, with a primary focus on rejuvenating natural waterbodies and averting a potential water crisis.
Commissioner's Directives on Rainwater Harvesting
During a review meeting, Municipal Commissioner Pradeep Singh instructed engineering officials to conduct surveys and identify effective methods for collecting and storing rainwater across the municipal area. He emphasized the need to create clusters of villages where ponds can be developed specifically for rainwater harvesting, with the future possibility of integrating water treatment facilities.
"There is an urgent need for rainwater harvesting to improve groundwater levels and avoid a future water crisis. I have directed officials to develop a system for collecting and storing rainwater to raise water levels," Singh stated. He added that ponds should be developed in village clusters in a manner that allows water treatment plants to be established when required to supply water to the community.
"This initiative would help improve water levels in Manesar in the coming years and significantly reduce the risk of water scarcity. Village ponds should be deepened, as water recharge depends on them," he noted.
Pre-Monsoon Preparations and Drain Cleaning
While reviewing development works within the corporation area, the commissioner stressed that all civil works should be completed before the onset of the monsoon. He directed that all drains be thoroughly cleaned to prevent waterlogging during the rainy season.
Enhanced Surveillance with CCTV Installation
Officials also reported that estimates have been prepared for installing CCTV cameras in all villages under the corporation area. "There is a plan to create clusters of four to five villages and place CCTV control with the respective police station to improve surveillance and security," they said.
Tender Process and Implementation
The commissioner instructed that the tender process for various works should be placed before the MCM House and the Finance and Contract Committee. "Once approval is received, tenders should be issued and work assigned to agencies without any delay," he emphasized.
Meanwhile, engineering officials confirmed that tenders for several construction works have already been issued in both divisions of the corporation.
