A man who was driving the vehicle involved in a devastating road accident in Guwahati on Sunday, which claimed the lives of three women, was apprehended in Dibrugarh district on Monday after being on the run. According to police officials, a team from Guwahati police has been dispatched to Dibrugarh to escort the suspect back to the city.
The case is currently under investigation at the Noonmati police station. The victims have been identified as Puja Saha (26) from Goalpara, Akanksha Saikia (23) from Sivasagar, and Armina Ahmed from New Bongaigaon. The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday when the car they were traveling in collided with a stationary truck at Mathgharia in Guwahati.
The force of the impact was so severe that the car was completely mangled. Two of the women died at the scene, while the third succumbed to her injuries at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital. Rescue teams had to use mechanical tools to extract the bodies from the wreckage.
The driver had fled the scene immediately after the accident, prompting a manhunt that led to his detention in Dibrugarh. Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
