Haridwar: A 55-year-old contractor, Manohar Singh, who fell into a 30-foot deep borewell on Wednesday, was rescued on Friday evening after hours of a relentless rescue operation. He was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Details of the Incident

Manohar Singh was manually digging the borewell in Kangri village under Shyampur police station on Wednesday when a sidewall collapsed, causing him to fall into the borewell, officials said. Police reported that he had been hired by Vijalpal Singh, a resident of Bairagi Camp, who could not afford to use machinery for the task.

Rescue Efforts

Following the incident, teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were immediately deployed to carry out rescue operations. The teams worked tirelessly over two days to extract the contractor from the narrow borewell.

Mela hospital Chief Medical Superintendent Rajesh Gupta stated, “Manohar was declared brought dead.” The cause of death is believed to be injuries sustained during the fall or prolonged entrapment.

Police confirmed that Manohar Singh is survived by his wife and two children. The family has been informed of the tragic incident. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident, including the safety measures taken during the digging process.
