BRS Leader Accuses Congress Government of Failing Tribal Communities in Telangana
Senior Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader T Harish Rao has launched a scathing attack on the Congress government in Telangana, accusing it of multiple failures in governance and welfare, particularly concerning tribal communities and farmers.
Allegations of Betrayal and Neglect
Addressing a press conference in Kodangal on Friday, Harish Rao asserted that the Congress government has completely failed to honor the promises it made to Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities during elections. He specifically criticized Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for what he described as speaking about governance and welfare in election campaigns in other states while neglecting his own constituency.
"In Kodangal, ST communities continue to face injustice, land-related harassment, and official neglect," Harish Rao stated emphatically. "The government seems to have funds for football events, camp offices, and beauty pageants, but not for ST students, ST welfare, or tribal development."
Budget Allocation vs. Actual Spending
The former minister presented specific figures to support his allegations, pointing to what he called the hollowness of the government's commitment. "While the government allocated Rs 2,730 crore in the budget for the ST corporation, it spent only Rs 52 crore," he revealed, highlighting a significant discrepancy between promised funding and actual implementation.
Harish Rao further claimed that "in the last two and a half years, not a single meaningful rupee of support has reached ST beneficiaries." He added that students from these communities are not receiving promised fee reimbursements, exacerbating educational disparities.
Specific Allegations in Kodangal
The BRS leader made several specific allegations regarding the situation in Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's own constituency:
- Tribal lands are being taken away in Kodangal
- Members of the ST community are being subjected to harassment
- Police excesses against tribal communities continue
- Official neglect persists despite election promises
Criticism of Campaign Politics
Harish Rao also questioned Revanth Reddy's public claims in other states, particularly in Kerala, where the chief minister has reportedly been speaking about the implementation of welfare guarantees in Telangana. "People in other states, including Kerala, are capable of seeing through exaggerated claims," he remarked, "especially when the ground reality in Telangana tells a different story."
The BRS leader accused the chief minister of seeking votes from SC and ST communities during elections only to turn against them after coming to power. He characterized this as a pattern of political betrayal that extends beyond welfare issues to include failures in agricultural support and job creation promises.
Broader Governance Failures
Beyond tribal welfare, Harish Rao outlined what he sees as broader governance failures:
- Betrayal of tribal communities despite election promises
- Failure to adequately support farmers facing various challenges
- Misleading the public on job creation and employment opportunities
- Neglecting the welfare of both SC and ST communities across Telangana
The press conference in Kodangal represents the latest escalation in political tensions between the opposition BRS and the ruling Congress government in Telangana, with tribal welfare emerging as a central point of contention.
