Harish Rao Accuses Congress Government of Police Misuse and Intimidation Tactics

In a strong condemnation, former minister T Harish Rao has leveled serious allegations against the Congress government, accusing it of misusing police machinery to intimidate opposition workers and manipulate elections. Speaking to reporters on Saturday after visiting 13 BRS workers held in judicial custody at Sangareddy district jail, Rao expressed outrage over what he described as false and politically motivated cases targeting his party members.

Allegations of Violence and Selective Law Enforcement

Harish Rao detailed incidents of intimidation and violence, including attacks on woman councillors and members of Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities. He highlighted the filing of Atrocities Act cases against BRS workers, asserting that serious charges such as attempt to murder were booked without supporting medical reports. Rao accused the police of blindly shielding ruling party leaders while aggressively targeting BRS activists, questioning why vehicles involved in violations were not seized and why FIRs were not registered despite video evidence being submitted.

He pointed to specific incidents of arson against BRS workers' vehicles, stating that the promise of equal treatment under the law had been reduced to a mere slogan. According to Rao, law enforcement is acting selectively in favor of the ruling party, with a clear bias in handling cases. He cited examples where BJP leaders who abused or manhandled police personnel faced no arrests, while BRS workers were booked and jailed for merely questioning illegal actions.

Incidents in Kyathanpally, Amangal, and Jangaon

Harish Rao referenced incidents in Kyathanpally, Amangal, and Jangaon, alleging that councillors were intimidated and women from Dalit communities were attacked in full view of officials, yet no action was taken against the perpetrators. He emphasized that these actions represent a systematic effort to suppress opposition voices and undermine democratic processes.

BRS to Raise Issues in Assembly Session

Asserting that the BRS will not allow the government to trample upon democratic rights, Harish Rao announced that the party plans to raise these issues in the upcoming assembly session. He vowed that BRS would continue to fight against political vendetta, misuse of police power, and the denial of rightful support to farmers, positioning the party as a defender of justice and accountability in the face of alleged governmental overreach.
