Haryana Cattle Carcasses Case: Indri Residents Issue 2-Day Ultimatum to Police
Anger is escalating in the Indri block of Haryana following a series of disturbing incidents involving cattle carcasses discovered in local water bodies over the past week. On Sunday, residents, cow vigilantes, and members of Hindu organisations convened a panchayat at the Rest House in Indri, delivering a stern two-day ultimatum to police and authorities to identify and arrest those responsible for the deaths.
Mounting Outrage Over Repeated Incidents
The tension stems from multiple findings of cattle carcasses in the Western Yamuna Canal and Dhanaura escape over the last five to six days. According to local reports, carcasses of over 20 cattle have been recovered from these areas, sparking widespread concern and protests. The situation intensified when carcasses were first spotted near Dhananheri village in the Western Yamuna Canal last Wednesday, followed by another incident near Indri the next day.
In response, cow vigilantes blocked roads, demanding immediate action from law enforcement. Despite police assurances to apprehend the culprits within 24 hours, more carcasses were discovered on Saturday at the Dhanaura escape, further fueling public fury and leading to the organised panchayat.
Key Figures and Demands at the Panchayat
The panchayat, organised by local cow vigilantes, drew hundreds of attendees, including prominent community leaders. Sant Gopal Das condemned the incidents, particularly noting their occurrence during the ongoing Navratri days, labeling them as "intolerable" and a sign of administrative failure. He called for stricter enforcement of laws, the formation of a dedicated cow protection force, and improved coordination between authorities and local panchayat bodies to ensure cattle safety.
Former Minister Karandev Kamboj also criticised the delay in police action, stating that repeated incidents and lack of arrests had compelled vigilantes to protest. "The administration must act swiftly and bring the culprits to justice," he emphasised during the gathering.
Ultimatum and Threats of Agitation
Representatives from cow protection groups revealed that the administration has requested an additional two days to make arrests. However, they issued a clear warning: if no concrete action is taken within this stipulated timeframe, a large-scale agitation will be launched. "We have given the administration a final deadline. Failure to act will lead to major agitation, for which the administration will be responsible," declared one of the organisers.

The carcasses have been sent for post-mortem examination, and surveillance has been intensified in the canal belt to prevent further occurrences.
