Haryana Congress Announces Mayoral Candidates for Sonipat and Ambala

The Haryana Congress party has officially declared its mayoral candidates for two key municipal corporations in the state. On Saturday, the party leadership named Kamal Diwan as the candidate for the Sonipat Municipal Corporation and Kulwinder Kaur for the Ambala City Municipal Corporation.

Candidate Backgrounds and Political Connections

Kamal Diwan comes from a prominent political family in Sonipat, being the son of former MLA Dev Raj Diwan. The Diwan family enjoys considerable political and social standing in the region. The Sonipat mayoral seat is open for general category candidates, making Diwan's nomination strategically significant.

Kulwinder Kaur represents the Backward Class (B) category and hails from an influential family in Ambala with strong rural-urban connections. Her candidacy receives substantial backing from local MLA Nirmal Singh and leaders associated with former Union minister Selja, indicating broad-based support within the party structure.

Panchkula Candidate Still Under Deliberation

While two candidates have been finalized, the party continues deliberations to select a mayoral candidate for Panchkula. According to sources, approximately twelve aspirants remain in contention for this position. Lok Sabha MP from Ambala, Varun Chaudhary, confirmed the ongoing selection process.

"Deliberations are at an advanced stage to finalize the name of the candidate for Panchkula," Chaudhary stated. "There are around twelve aspirants who have been in the reckoning. Party leaders are carefully evaluating each candidate individually. Once we complete the selection of mayoral candidates and the Rewari civic body chief candidate, we will proceed to choose candidates for corporator positions."

Manifesto Committee Begins Work on Urban Issues

Simultaneously with candidate selection, the Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee's manifesto committee, chaired by Geeta Bhukkal, held its inaugural meeting to identify key issues for the upcoming municipal elections. The committee focused on problems affecting urban local bodies across the state and discussed practical, effective solutions.

Committee members emphasized creating a people-centric and inclusive manifesto that incorporates suggestions and experiences gathered from grassroots levels. Bhukkal highlighted that the manifesto development process has actively solicited input from multiple stakeholders.

"Suggestions for the manifesto have been invited not only from Members of Parliament, MLAs, and district Congress presidents but also from the general public," Bhukkal explained. "We have already received a substantial number of responses from various quarters."

Comprehensive Manifesto for Multiple Municipal Bodies

The committee plans to develop a unified manifesto covering three municipal corporations (Panchkula, Ambala, and Sonipat) along with the Municipal Council of Rewari and the Municipal Committees of Sampla, Dharuhera, and Uklana. A central focus of this manifesto will be addressing corruption and eliminating fear among citizens.

Bhukkal expressed confidence that the committee's work will result in a manifesto that meets public expectations and addresses genuine urban concerns. The dual approach of candidate selection and manifesto development demonstrates the party's comprehensive preparation for the upcoming municipal elections across Haryana.
