Haryana Municipal Elections Scheduled for May 10 Across 144 Wards
The Haryana State Election Commission (SEC) officially declared on Wednesday that municipal general elections will be conducted throughout the state on May 10. This significant electoral event will encompass a total of 144 wards spread across various municipal corporations, councils, and committees.
Extensive Polling Infrastructure and Voter Demographics
Polling activities are set to take place at 826 designated stations, facilitating the democratic process for approximately 8.7 lakh eligible voters. The voter breakdown includes over 4.5 lakh men, 4.2 lakh women, and 37 voters categorized under other gender classifications.
Detailed Ward Distribution Across Municipalities
The elections will be held in specific ward allocations across multiple urban local bodies:
- Ambala Municipal Corporation: 20 wards
- Panchkula Municipal Corporation: 20 wards
- Sonipat Municipal Corporation: 22 wards
- Rewari Municipal Council: 32 wards
- Uklana Municipal Committee: 16 wards
- Sampla Municipal Committee: 16 wards
- Dharuhera Municipal Committee: 18 wards
Reservation Status for Key Positions
The commission has outlined specific reservation criteria for mayoral and presidential posts across these municipalities:
- In Ambala, the mayor's position is reserved for Backward Class-B (BC-B) women candidates.
- Panchkula and Sonipat feature unreserved mayoral posts.
- The president's post in Rewari is reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) women.
- Uklana's presidential position is reserved for women candidates.
- Sampla and Dharuhera maintain unreserved presidential posts.
Voter Statistics by Municipality
The SEC provided detailed voter population figures for key municipalities:
- Ambala: 1.98 lakh voters
- Panchkula: 2.07 lakh voters
- Sonipat: 2.95 lakh voters
- Rewari: 1.15 lakh voters
- Uklana, Sampla, and Dharuhera combined: Over 54,000 voters
Simultaneous Bypolls in Six Wards
In addition to the general elections, bypolls will be conducted in six wards across six different urban local bodies. These supplementary elections will involve more than 7,200 voters who will cast their ballots at eight polling stations.
